Investing In Our Future

This month, we were pleased to host an event at our new factory in Huntsville that was focused on growth, investment and opportunities for young graduates. Muskoka has not been immune to the economic challenges experienced by much of North America, with more factory and resort closings. Against that backdrop, the announcements made today were welcome news for many members of the community who joined us at the roastery.

Tony Clement, who represents the riding of Parry Sound - Muskoka in Ottawa, and who serves as President of the Treasury Board, announced some FedNor funding for programs designed to promote tourism and business growth in Northern Ontario. Tony was joined by Claude Doughty, the mayor of Huntsville.

It would be fair to say that we at the Muskoka Roastery see ourselves as entrepreneurs, who have built the business the old fashioned way - with hard work and our own capital. That remains our value system and approach. But, when the opportunity to partner with FedNor to co-fund a youth intern position for one year came our way, we signed up. The simple fact is that Muskoka is a significant exporter of one major commodity - young people. If we can contribute, even with one new job, to demonstrate that there is opportunity in Muskoka for young graduates, then we will mark it as a good investment in our future and our community.
