When we created our 1% to Sustain budget in 2016, it was largely directed to community organizations. Our growth, fuelled by your support, means that this budget is now large enough to expand our funding to contribute in a more significant way to our sustainability mission.

We believe that the most direct path to real change is through building grassroots momentum.

Our funding goes to organizations that are focused on a specific goal, are not encumbered by layers of bureaucracy, and are committed to involve the public to influence change.

We support a wide range of projects under a broad heading of seeking to create a more sustainable future. We believe that initiatives that get individuals and communities involved and engaged will lead to positive impacts at the micro and macro level.

Even if the change starts with one individual taking a decision to take up hiking or canoeing, to experience Canada’s natural spaces more directly, we count that as progress. Engaged communities are much more likely to get involved in the larger challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental justice.
