1. 100% Compostable Pods and Capsules - BPI Certified

Our coffee pods and capsules are fully compostable, helping to reduce waste in landfills. These pods are BPI Certified, which means they meet the high standards for compostability set by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI). This certification ensures that our pods break down in commercial composting environments in no more than 90 days and we have worked directly with testing labs to confirm these products perform as promised.

2. 100% Recyclable Bags Made of #4 Plastic

The bags used for our coffee are 100% recyclable, made from #4 plastic (LDPE), which is accepted widely by curbside recycling programs. This is part of our ongoing effort to reduce plastic waste in our supply chain. During the development of these bags, we worked closely with our PRO (Producer Responsibility Organization) - Circular Materials to ensure that this type of plastic would be properly accepted and processed within Canada.

3. B Corp Certification

Muskoka Roastery Coffee Co. is proud to be a Certified B Corporation—a designation awarded to businesses that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. As a B Corp, we undergo laborious assessments to ensure our practices contribute positively to our community, the environment, and our stakeholders. Our B Corp certification reflects our commitment to using business as a force for good. 

4. 1% to Sustain

Muskoka Roastery is dedicated to environmental stewardship through our 1% to Sustain program. We donate 1% of revenue every year to environmental organizations focused on protecting and restoring nature in Canada. The charities we support follow internationally recognized standards for environmental protection and sustainability, ensuring that our contributions have a meaningful impact. We provide transparency on the organizations we support and regularly update our customers on how their purchases help fund environmental causes.

5. Annual Impact Report

We understand that transparency is crucial. Each year, we publish an Annual Impact Report detailing our outputs, progress, challenges, and achievements in environmental stewardship. This report includes insights into our 1% to Sustain program, emissions, and ongoing CSR initiatives. 6. Zero Waste

In addition to our 100% compostable pods and recyclable bags, we partner with Emerald Energy from Waste to address any remaining waste in our operations by converting it into renewable energy. Their cutting-edge process recovers energy as steam and electricity, while meeting Ontario’s stringent environmental standards. U-PAK Disposals (1989) Limited certifies that Muskoka Roastery Coffee Co. has been diverting their waste from landfill to Emerald Energy from Waste Inc. since September 2024 and has provided a ‘Zero-Waste Facility’ certification. Together, these efforts reinforce our commitment to a zero-waste future.

5. Bullfrog Power Green Energy

Our commitment to renewable energy extends to powering our roastery, office, and vehicles with 100% green electricity, natural gas, and fuel through Bullfrog Power. Bullfrog Power sources its green electricity from EcoLogo-certified facilities, ensuring it meets stringent environmental standards to protect biodiversity and minimize negative impacts. Additionally, Bullfrog undergoes annual audits by Deloitte to verify the proper retirement of renewable energy certificates (RECs), guaranteeing the integrity of our green energy purchase. By partnering with Bullfrog, we are directly supporting renewable energy development and eliminating our energy related emissions footprint.
